Virgin Islands

Officially part of the United States, the Virgin Islands offer a different spin on that American vacation.

Caribbean turquoise waters, exotic animals, beautiful palm trees and endless sunshine all await in this tropical escape.

If you are American, you do not need a passport or different currency; however, should you choose to drive around, be aware this is the only place in the U.S.A. that drives on the left side of the road.

This allows you to feel even more like you're leaving the country!

ST. THOMAS & ST. MAARTEN

These small islands owned by the U.S. offer the tropical escape while still staying in America.

The island of St. Maarten is known for Maho beach, where the airport's runway is directly across the street, making it the closest you can get to incoming airplanes as they land.

This also makes for an interesting experience as jets take off, with the power of their blast being strong enough to send people right back into the water.

GETTING THERE:

The most common airport to fly into will Saint Thomas (STT) or Saint Croix (STX).
